Are you a young single mother . . .

interested in advancing your career and obtaining a healthier work/life balance?

We may be able to help!

As a single mom, you face unique challenges. We understand that juggling the role of being the sole parent and earning a sufficient income is beyond difficult.

Studies show that single-parent families in the United States are nearly twice as likely to live in poverty than two-parent families.

Achieving a higher salary can provide a much-needed financial boost for your family, but that takes energy, money, and a lot of hard work. The dream of making your professional development a priority may seem impossible, but with the support of the Sisters of St. Joseph at St. Joseph Neighborhood Center (SJNC) dreams are made possible. Our commitment is to support young single mothers who are open and are willing to transform their lives and the lives of their children.

At SJNC we assist single women entrenched in the daily challenges of being the sole parent and sole provider for their family. The Sisters and staff partner with single mothers and help them reimagine their future. We do this through career counseling, paid apprenticeships, mentoring, and spiritual direction.

This program isn't free. . . the cost is hard work and a promise to complete the program, while doing so with other single mothers.

C A R E E R G O A L S

Knowing your goals will help you decide which job opportunities to pursue and how best to utilize your God given talents.

We will provide aptitude surveys, valuable insights, mentors, and resources that can help you determine the best career suited for you based on the skills you already have.

Once you clearly understand your goals, we will help you create a path to achieve them. Remember that there are many factors to consider when determining your career goals, like what you want to achieve in the short and long term.

Some single parents may want to advance in their current career field. Others may decide to enter a new field altogether. There are many options available, and it is important to choose the best option for you and your family.

Whichever path you choose keep in mind that hard work is required - but it is worth it!

MAKE A COMMITMENT

Each woman will be asked for her commitment to becoming who she was created to be through hard work and determination. The Sisters and staff ask for the women’s commitment to the completion of their individual course and curriculum. The Sisters and staff recognize the already large responsibilities that lie on a single mother’s shoulders. They understand that she may grow tired and will gently encourage her to learn to rest; but not quit. Through the program the mothers will be introduced to life skills that parallel their education and employment.

Each participant will be asked to step outside her comfort zone, to explore innovative ideas, and contemplate new ways of thinking. The Sisters and staff will provide educational sessions dealing with finances, parenting, and spirituality. The women are encouraged to become curious, ask questions, and formulate their own thoughts and opinions based on this new knowledge.

The program commitment asks the participants to be fully vested in every aspect of the following:
