Career Tracks:

Accelerated career tracks have been developed in the areas of accounting, healthcare, and hospitality. Each career track will include a paid apprenticeship for a 24-month duration. Starting salaries will begin at $15/hour (plus healthcare benefits) and have a target for being ~$22/hour at the end of a 24-month period.

  • CNA Healthcare Track

    The CNA’s job is challenging but rewarding! If you enjoy connecting with people on a personal level, this is a job for you. The day-to-day responsibilities help foster trust between the staff and each patient. The duties you are expected to perform may include" Assisting the disabled, maintaining patient reports, monitoring patient vital signs, feeding and hydrating patient, and monitoring nutrition. You may also be involved in increasing patient physical activity, as needed, responding to patient calls, and caring for wounds. The requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of the St. Joseph Neighborhood Center training program, and passing a state exam to receive CNA licensure.

  • LPN Healthcare Track

    LPN is a type of nurse that is responsible for providing patients with essential care. They often directly oversee the CNA, and because of extra training, is allowed to perform more complex medical tasks. They too provide basic patient care and ensure that patients are comfortable and well cared for. In addition, the LPN works closely with the RN to develop a plan of care, and oversees the implementation of the plan. Becoming an LPN requires completion of an accredited practical nursing certificate program. Once you complete your practical nursing program, you will receive a certification, but you will have to pass the National Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) in order to become officially licensed and begin your career.

  • Accounting Track

    An accounting clerk is a member of a company’s accounting department, responsible for assisting with both clerical and administrative tasks. You will need to have strong customer service and communication skills as you will need to speak with clients and vendors often about sensitive account and debt information. Attention to detail and mathematical skills are also a must, as you will need to ensure the accuracy of your organization’s financial records. Training will include Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, Bloomerang Database and basic office skills.

  • Culinary Arts Track

    The Culinary Arts program is perfect start for students looking for rewarding careers in the hospitality industry. While staffing the SSJ Kitchen and dining room, they’ll master the following skills: Prepare proteins, fruits and vegetables, cereals and grains, beverages. Develop menus for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and receptions. Use and maintain industry-standard kitchen equipment, such as ranges, ovens, slicers, mixers, knives, etc. Students polish their customer service skills by acting as hosts, servers, and bussers. A focus on nutrition, food allergies and culinary sustainability are important elements of the program.
